Important Australian art
Stellar results were achieved at Sotheby’s Australia’s auction of Important Australian Art. Two paintings sold for over $1.5 million, the highest auction results for 2015. The sale featured a number of rare and significant works, many of which were offered to the market for the first time in several decades. Comprising 94 lots by leading practitioners, the sale achieved $8.55 million including buyer’s premium: the highest total for a Sotheby’s Australia November sale ever.
Setting the two highest Australian art auction prices for 2015 to date, two impressive paintings by Australia’s modern masters Arthur Boyd and Fred Williams both exceeded $1.5 million. Sotheby’s Australia currently holds four of the top 5 Australian art auction results for 2015.^
