Important Australian & International Art

In 2019, Smith & Singer (formerly known as Sotheby’s Australia) realised the second-highest auction and annual totals for fine art in the company’s auspicious history, with our annual total surpassing $39,000,000 – 40% of the Australian art auction market and almost double our two closest competitors – and our November sale achieving $13,917,150.  The November auction marked a further milestone as the thirteenth consecutive sale to exceed $8 million and the second to exceed $12 million, a record hitherto unseen in the history of the Australian art market.

Held in Sydney on 24 June 2020, Important Australian & International Art realised $6,960,100, the highest fine art auction total of any auction house in 2020 to date, and reaffirmed Smith & Singer's leadership of the market.  The auction presented an exceptional selection of Australian and international works.  Comprised of key pieces from throughout the last two centuries, this auction offered rare and never-before-seen examples of Colonialism, Naturalism, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Modernism, and Abstraction, along with paintings, sculptures and works on paper by the most influential artistic innovators of historical, modern and contemporary Australian and international art.
