A late Victorian Aesthetic Movement sterling silver and gilt tea and coffee service, Walter & John Barnard, London, circa 1892

PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE COLLECTION, MELBOURNE
comprising a teapot, a coffee pot, a creamer and a two-handled sugar vessel, each of canted rectangular form, decorated with bright cut parcel gilt scenes depicting cranes taking flight amongst bamboo, beneath gilt panels, bordered by patera and foliage, flanked by angular handles, rising to a domed cover with a bell finial, the teapot and coffee pot each with ivory fillets to the handle, the coffee pot with its rare original silver-mounted cloth strainer; together with a silver plated canted rectangular tray, William Drummond and Co., with a pierced gallery edge and two integral handles, centred by a scene of conforming design, housed in a fitted oak case with a partial label for William Drummond and Co.

Condition Report
Expected light wear associated with use and age, however all pieces are in good order overall; hallmarks clear, including for the coffee strainer; surface marks and scratches to the exterior of the canteen and a loss to the top edge of the lower body at the back left corner near the hinge; remnant lable 'Wm. Drumm' to the lid of the canteen; brass fittings tarnished; brass plaque to the top edge of the lower body of the canteen missing; key missing.
