Founded as long ago as 1901 Indian was once the largest motorcycle factory in the world, it had many competition successes and became famous throughout, they continued production until 1953. The Indian Chief evolved into this majestic example incorporating the style and experience of almost 50 years of motorcycle building. The list of achievements by Indian, perhaps one of the most evocative names in motorcycling history during war time both on the race track and for civilian use, is endless. It was financial ruin due to irresponsible corporate governance that ended the manufacture of these masterful motorcycles and the company sadly went into receivership. This motorcycle was restored in America and imported into Australia. It is fitted with new tyres and the vendor tells us it starts readily and starts as well as it looks. A truly rare and collectable bike it is the second last year model made and is revered as one of the last real bikes, Indian finishing all production in 1953. The 1952 and 1953 models being produced essentially for Police Department supply.
