When the first Ford Falcon was introduced in Australia in late 1960 it was as a result of the decision by the Ford Motor Company to adopt this U.S design instead of the Ford Zephyr from the English factory. One of the major reasons for this was the simplicity of design of the U.S. Car, thus reducing cost and making production easier.

The first major re-styling of the Falcon came in September 1966 with the XR model. GT versions of each succeeding model, the XT in 1968 and the XW in 1969, then the XY in late 1970 were produced, each one adding to the reputation of the marque, many of the most revered of Australia drivers at the wheel of the GTHO variant added to the mystique of the model.

This example has been in the present ownership for c20 years and the original log-books show that the car was delivered on 4/3/71 to a Mr & Mrs Cleary of East Gosford, by the area dealer Grawill Motors of West Gosford.
