Ferrari launched its 308 GTB in 1976. Designed by Pininfarina it had a mid-mounted V8, 3 Litre engine developing 250 bhp and with a weight of under 1100 kilograms, exciting performance was assured.

The initial production run of 712 cars had glass fibre construction and were built by Scaglietti. With dry-sump lubrication and a five speed gear box, the car accelerated to 100kmh in 6 seconds with a top speed of c 235kmh. With design elements showing its lineage from the much admired Dino 246, the new car was a success from its inception.

This original right hand drive example, with factory air conditioning, was delivered new in March 1978 in Hong Kong by Italian Motors to Mr Wilson Y T Loke. Information supplied by the vendor is that it would appear that the owner took the car to California and then was sent by that family to New Zealand in May 1996. Thus it appears that the car was in the ownership of one family until then and the extensive service records tend to confirm this. The 308 was in storage for many years in New Zealand and since being acquired by the vendor has had attention to the brakes and wiring, together with cam belts and a major service.

This is an outstanding chance to acquire one of the much sought after early lightweight, dry sump cars. This vehicle, in excellent condition is available to view in Auckland where it will remain for the auction.
